Innovative Science with the Royal Armouries The Royal Armouries (the national museum of arms and armour) at the Tower of London offers a large range of STEM educational sessions for ages 5 to 18, both on and off site, offering schools a different and exciting approach to national curriculum subjects. We can provide a range of activities tailored to suit the demands of the National Curriculum, incorporating elements of practical investigation and object handling to produce a learning environment which “stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them”. We have sessions to cover both Secondary and Primary Science topics and wherever possible will tailor the activity for you, making a bespoke session. Onsite at the Tower of London you can choose from: KS1: Top to Toe and Hog Tails. KS2: Hard Hats, Walter Ralegh – Prisoner and Scientist, Healthy Henry and Eggstreme Sports. KS3: Murder at the Tower, Plastic Fantastic and A very material mail. KS4 and above: Smart Materials, Technical Textiles and Engineering Sessions. We can do two classes a day (1 hour to 1 ½ hour sessions) each with a maximum of 30 students (minimum 5). Our prices range from £6 to £8.50 a student depending on their age, which includes entrance to the Tower of London. However we do have some sponsored visits available – these will go fast so please contact us early to benefit from discounted or even free entry. Offsite at your school: We offer a bespoke outreach service focusing on material science. This can be in the form of object handling, presentations or even experiments and demonstrations. At the moment our outreach is FREE, but we do ask for help with travel costs (usually via taxi because of the objects we bring). We are willing to come to your school all day and do as many sessions as we can but do ask that you provide lunch!
