Engineering Days for Teachers and Careers Advisors
This event was initiated by ICE and supported by IMechE. Over twenty teachers and careers advisors have been invited to participate in a full day tour of past and present engineering projects in London accompanied by engineers from various institutions. Sites visited to date include: 2012 Olympic Park; Canary Wharf; Tubelines Operation centre; Skills Academy for central London Building projects; the London Eye; St Pancras Station. Two of these events have taken place so far and the aim is to undertake three each year each led by a different institution IMechE ICE and IET. This has been well received by teachers and the application list has been oversubscribed many times over. There is an obvious demand for this. Science Learning Centre London is part of the national network of Science Learning Centres, a joint initiative by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Wellcome Trust.
